Item Description

An amazingly sculptural and RARE old gypsum from an obscure old mine in the ancient lead and silver mining area around Wiesloch. Classic, blocky, transparent fishtail-twinned crystals comprise this striking stellate specimen. The dramatic large 5.9 cm crystal has a fantastic curved "tail", which really adds pizzazz. Complete all-around and pristine, the specimen is a superb floater with beautiful variable ghostly white fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2010 and acquired from Lindemann in August,1961. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An exceptionally attractive and rare old gypsum. Valued at $400.
