Item Description

Well-formed gypsum specimens are rare from Styria, Austria, even though MINDAT lists over 30 Styrian localities. This showy and excellent CABINET plate consists entiirely of translucent, brown blades. The radial starburst cluster is striking and many of the crystals have fishtail terminations. A few crystals are even hollow! For such dense coverage, there are very few broken crystals. The base has been sawed to enhance the display quality. Very uncommon and fine material from this famous area. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection.
