Item Description
VERY RARE and striking old gypsum from this obscure Ellis County, Kansas locality near Hays. The impressive large flattened transparent light gray prism has dramatic spearpoint terminations, that are enhanced by the pearlescent, waxy luster. It resembles classic gypsum from Naica, Mexico. The sculptural form looks like an Imperial battleship from the Star Wars movies. Old material from the Harry Smith Collection with a 1958 date on his card. From the broad and important collections of Dick Hauck, founder and owner of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in New Jersey. There are NO examples in the MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale. Fantastic and symmetrical, essentially pristine for such a soft mineral.
