Item Description
Gypsum specimens are uncommon from the famous Black Forest. Fishtail-twinned crystals of this size and sharpness are EXTREMELY RARE, especially from this very obscure area in the Black Forest. Isolated, sharp translucent, brownish-gray fishtails, to 3.3 cm, dramatically cover the pristine sculptural 360-degree plate. A rich preferential secondary overgrowth of tiny gypsum crystals add much character to this super and pristine rarity. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2408 and acquired from Scott Williams in the early 1960s. Comes with a German label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Rare, perhaps UNIQUE, Black Forest gypsum.
