Item Description
This piece is the first specimen of Gypsum that we've had to offer from this famous area best known for its attractive Sulfurs, Aragonites and Celestines. Several very sharp, rather lustrous, notably gemmy, soft golden colored blades of Gypsum measuring up to 4.6 cm are intergrown to create this showy and three-dimensional specimen. The crystals appear to have either a semi-lamellar habit or perhaps they are tightly intergrown twins(?). There are a few contacts to the crystals, so it's not 100% pristine, but it's an antique (the label states it was found before 1912), and any knowledgeable Italian collector will tell you that Gypsums from Agrigento (Girgenti) are incredibly rare. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2289). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
