Item Description
A very attractive and classic gemmy Gypsum (var: Selenite) specimen from Death Valley, California. The piece hosts sharp, lustrous, very gemmy, colorless prismatic crystals measuring up to 7.3 cm with minor attached matrix. The piece is not damage free, it's more of a reference specimen, but it's the historical aspect that makes it so worthwhile. The specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed 3x5 index card label from Wulff that states it was personally collected by the legendary field collector, Edwin Over, who was also one of the founding members of the CSMS with men like Wulff, Lazard Cahn and George White. A wonderfully historic and hard to find piece from around 70 years ago.
