Item Description
Here we have a classic specimen of the famous Gypsum (Selenite) "floaters" from Saint David. This piece is an intergrown cluster of bladed crystals forming a "rosette" from this Arizona locale. The crystals are rather sharp with good luster and translucency. The slightly sandy color is indicative of the material. There are many "styles" of Gypsum found at this locality, but the "rosettes" are among the most desirable and sought after by collectors. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
