Item Description
This certainly a first for me. This doubly-terminated, thick, stout, gemmy, colorless crystal of Gypsum comes with an old typed label stating (in VERY faded print) that it's from Fayetteville, New York. I've never seen a specimen of this material before, and for a worldwide Gypsum, I have to say it's very good quality. This is the first piece of any species that we've had to offer from this lesser known locality in upstate New York (near Syracuse). If you collect East Coast minerals, don't miss out on this oddball specimen that is probably much rarer than one might realize. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
