Item Description

Some of the best known specimens of this rare silver lead bismuth sulfide are those from the Rotgulden area in Salzburg, Austria. This piece features silvery-grey orthorhombic Gustavite crystals in Chalcopyrite host rock matrix. The label states that Lillianite is present with the Gustavite, and the two species do form a series, it's hard to say for certain if there is truly Lillianite without chemical analysis. Gustavite was named after Gustav Adolf Hageman, a chemical engineer for the Cryolite Firm (Ivigtut, Greenland). This piece is best viewed under magnification, but it's more than just a micro piece, it's a great opportunity to pick up a VERY hard to find mineral from one of the premier localities for the species.
