Item Description

Groutite is a rare Mn-hydroxide. These are SUPERB CRYSTALS for the species from an old iron mine, but an important locality for the reason that it produces such good groutites! These lustrous, bladed crystals reach to 4mm in size and fill the 2.5 cm long vug. The jet-black crystals are razor-sharp, and they have a mirror-like luster to them that is reminiscent of the finest black andradite garnets. This is a very fine small cabinet that is actually better in person. There are several more vugs in the quartz, masive groutite and hematite matrix. Comparing these crystals to others you have seen of the species will show just how outstanding they really are. This defunct locality produced in the past one pocket which, for crystal size and distinction of habit, are surely the worlds best of species. An old cloth label is attached to the base of the piece.
