Item Description
Unusual 1975 find of lustrous metallic needles of Groutite on white and orange-red silicified Chinle Formation Petrified wood. Groutite is a rare manganese oxide that is seen here as single "micro-sword" crystals, up to 3.5 cm in length, laying flat and standing vertically off the Petrified wood. There is coverage on both the top display face as well as the reverse side that has a more traditional bark appearance. A definite rarity for not only the Groutite specimen but also for the unusual combination of it crystallizing off of colorful Petrified wood. Donated by Edward Loye to the MINDAT auction.
