Item Description

Groutite specimens from the Emilie Mine (Bülten-Adenstedt Mine) are arguably the best crystallized examples of the species from Europe (a close second being the Groutites from the Zavalye graphite field in Ukraine). With that said, it is extremely difficult to get your hands on one of these old German specimens these days as they were mined back in the 1960s, and never found again. We've only had a few of these over the years. This is a classic example of the material featuring a handful of crystallized patches of tightly intergrown, black, orthorhombic crystals of Groutite with an almost chatoyant directional luster sitting inside of an opening within a grey-brown colored manganese nodule. If you collect classics, rare minerals or manganese-bearing species, do not miss out on this attractive and historic specimen from this famous old iron mine in Saxony. Valued at $500.
