Item Description

Some of the finest pieces of Petrified Wood are those from Arizona. The fine preserved forms of the wood itself, combined with the beautiful vivid colors of the material makes it some of the most desirable examples of the material out there. This is a rather rare specimen from the Holbrook, Arizona. It's not just a Petrified Wood specimen, but it has the added bonus of featuring small, prismatic, black crystals of the manganese oxide Groutite! If you look closely, you can see there is a thin seam on the specimen where the little Groutite crystals formed. We have photographed the crystals with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. The Petrified Wood portion of the specimen is filled with a wonderful mixture of colors, with strong red, purple and blue hues along with one olive-green colored band on one side. RARE on the market, and a great combination specimen featuring a mineral species with a fossil together on the same piece.
