Item Description

This enthralling, lustrous example of the rare manganese oxide-hydroxide mineral, Groutite, is perhaps the finest one I have seen. When found, Groutite is most often seen in small, needle-like crystals, such as the well-known occurrence on petrified wood from Holbrook, Arizona; or old classics from Germany. The fact that there are two distinct habits here helps make this a first-class specimen. The first generation is composed of sharp, highly lustrous crystals about 1 mm in size. This is partialy covered by a more botryoidal generation that has a very attractive drusy coating. Here, the small botryoids average about 5 mm across, and both generations have superb, near-metallic luster. Surprisingly rare in the Kalahari fields for some reason. Better yet in person.
