Groutite

These are superb crystals for the species from a remote, but important locality on the iron ranges of northern Minnesota that produced some of the best Groutites for the species! These lustrous, bladed, jet-black crystals are razor-sharp and have a mirror-like luster to them and are between 2 to 4 mm in size. This is a great Cabinet-sized piece loaded with crystals right down the center of an elongate vug in a Hematite-Quartz matrix. The Groutite crystals are from 2 to 5 mm in size and are an incredibly lustrous and brilliant black. Groutite is an uncommon manganese-oxyhydroxide and good crystals of the species like this are very rare! This small, now defunct locality gave up some major specimens such as this piece, produced from a one pocket find, and remain some of the best-of-species for crystal size and distinction of habit. This is a rare, large, cabinet sized specimen with a gorgeous protected pocket of the groutite.
