Item Description
Raspberry-red colored Grossular Garnets from Sierra de Cruces in Coahuila Mexico are a fairly unique find in the mineral world. This striking specimen has numerous well exposed Grossular crystals scattered throughout the matrix with the largest measuring 1.4 cm. The raspberry red to dark pink color is a definite eye-catcher especially when matched with the luster and translucent "hard candy" appearance as seen is some of the smaller crystals. While the piece is not pristine, as is typical with this material, the crystals are in good condition and present a nice balanced composition with a great contrast to the mostly white matrix. The basal side has three honey yellow Vesuvianite crystals nestled among the matrix. While these are are all partial crystals and are not on the display face, it is still a cool association. This Grossular specimen is a lovely example with good crystals and great color. Donated by Dave Bunk Minerals to the MINDAT auction.
