Item Description
A nice thumbnail specimen of "Hessonite" (Grossular Garnet) from a place called Stockknubel near Zermatt, Switzerland. More than likely this is not the correct locality for the piece, but it's hard to say exactly where it's from. There are documented Hessonite localities around Zermatt, so this piece is certainly from the area. A predominant, 1.2 cm, sharp, lustrous, translucent, deep orange-red trapezohedral crystal is the highlight in the center of this piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10380). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
