Grossular (var: Hessonite)

Item Description

The famous Jeffrey Quarry in Quebec more many years produced some of the most distinctive and magnificent quality Garnet crystals extant. The well-known "Cinnamon" or "Hessonite" Grossulars from this large open pit mine are known for their unique orange color, gemminess, top luster and superb "textbook" form. This specimen features many superb quality, sharp, lustrous, orange color, gemmy, crystals of Grossular measuring up to 6 mm across sitting on a thin bit matrix. The crystals show a beautiful combination of trapezohedral and dodecahedral faces. Most of the crystals are damage free and look beautiful up close with the beautiful thin striations on each face. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased.
