Item Description

A good quality matrix display specimen of the lesser-seen Grossular Garnets with Epidote from the Coyote Front Range in California. This three-dimensional small cabinet sized specimen host several highly lustrous, very sharp, well-formed, rich reddish-brown colored dodecahedral crystals (with trapezohedral modifications) measuring up to 3.0 cm across associated with medium green colored prismatic crystals of Epidote measuring up to 2.1 cm on typical calcic skarn matrix. Most of the crystals are in very good condition, though some are contacted in areas. The amazingly high luster of the Garnets combined with the gorgeous color combination with the Epidote makes this an eye-catching specimen of these uncommon specimens from near Bishop. This is certainly one of the better pieces I've had to offer from the locale, with above average sized crystals to boot! From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
