Item Description

Beautiful, classic, gemmy rich cinnamon-orange hessonite (orange due to small iron content) grossular garnet crystals are aesthetically set in contrasting glassy colorless diopside matrix on this sculptural and fine matrix combination from famous Eden Mills. The impresssive, dominating pair of intergrown sharp dodecahedrons is 1.5 cm long. Uncommon and desirable older combination material, as gemmy hessonites on colorless glassy diopside are very seldom on the market. Remarkable Belvedere grossular and diopside from the Dr. Francesco Bedogne Collection # 225 and acquired in 1973. Dr. Bedogne, 1942-2012, was a well-known Italian mineralogist, prolific author, field collector and collector. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=118. This outstanding combination has two fine display views. A MUST for the species or locality collector. Valued at $1000 and worth it.
