Grossular Garnet (old - Type Locality)

Olive-green, gemmy/translucent, lustrous, grossular garnet dodecahedrons beveled by trapezohedral faces are aesthetically scattered on the small cabinet matrix. The large isolated crystal in the center is 2.0 cm. The Vilyui River Basin in Siberia is the Type Locality for this famous garnet species. This is OLD grossular from Russia, before the true locality was known. Ex Bill Larson & his company's Pala International Garnet Collection with labeled base - which was long on the display at the Fallbrook store in the San Diego area for decades before we bought it some years ago (found it hiding in storage!). Bill's label has this specimen being from the Ural Mountains, which is incorrect. An old, fine and rich matrix example from the Type Locality.
