Grossular Garnet (good locality specimen)

Item Description

The Bazhenovsk Deposit in Russia is very comparable to the famous Jeffrey Quarry in Quebec, with a lot of the same species, including beautiful Grossular Garnets, found in a range of colors. This piece is a very good small cabinet sized display specimen filled with robust, well-formed, translucent, deep cinnamon-orange colored crystals measuring up to 2.1 cm across, showing a combination of dodecahedral and trapezohedral faces, free of matrix. The piece is complete on the front/display side, with very little damage that can be seen. One of, if not THE best Grossular specimens we've had from this locality with regard to big orange crystals. From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015) who was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports (named after the large open vugs in basalt in India which were often filled with crystals). Collection #8999 and MINDAT ID #5CV-JHT. The piece was originally from Dmitri Belakovskiy. Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
