The Lake Jaco deposit in Mexico is renowned for these particular "raspberry garnets", really a Grossular garnet variety with unusual color , which came out in the 1990s. Well-formed, translucent, and vibrant, these raspberry-colored Grossular Garnets are attractively set on Quartz matrix. These modified dodecahedrons, the largest of which is about 1.7 cm across, have very good luster and color. Aesthetic and uncommon, good specimens are hard to come by these days. This one is gorgeous! Probably dating to the late 1990s, he purchased this from dealer Luis Leiite (Leitiite). These are some of the most distinctive Garnets in the world, and instantly recognizable.
