Item Description

The Jeffrey Mine was the source of some of the most distinctive and magnificent quality Garnet crystals ever found. The rich orange "cinnamon" colored Grossular are celebrated for their unique orange color, gemminess, top luster and superb "textbook" form. This specimen features good quality, sharp, lustrous, pastel peach to orange colored crystals of Grossular which measure up to 1.1 cm across on matrix. Very little damage, save the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. The crystals are beautifully striated and feature a combination of dodecahedral and trapezohedral faces. Jeffrey is finished, and there will be no more of these specimens, so get these while you can. Priced at $1,200 in the inventory. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #2115CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
