Item Description

Garnet species are found in thousands of world localities, in a wide range of colors and habits. The distinctive "cinnamon" colored Grossular Garnets from the famed Jeffrey Mine in Quebec are among the finest and most desirable Garnets from anywhere. This now-closed locality certainly produced some of the most distinctive and magnificent quality Grossular crystals ever found. These specimen feature crystals crystals with a distinctive orange hue, and the habit (either dodecahedral or trapezohedral, or a combination of both forms) is easily recognizable. This specimen is a good quality group comprising, sharp, lustrous, fine orange color, gemmy, dodecahedral crystal of Grossular with trapezohedral modifications, free of matrix. The largest crystal measures 1.0 cm across. The piece is in good shape on the front, but contacted on around the periphery and back where it was removed from the pocket. Considering that this material is no longer being found (the Jeffrey Mine is now completely defunct and will not produce these specimens again), the value will continue to increase for these specimens. A wonderful thumbnail specimen of these Canadian classics. Valued $950.
