Garnet is one of the most well-known mineral groups, and species of Garnet are found in thousands of world localities. The distinctive and classic "cinnamon" colored Grossulars from the famed Jeffrey Mine in Quebec are among the finest and most desirable Garnets from any locality. This now-closed mine produced some of the most highest quality and truly desirable Grossular crystals ever found. These crystals have a easily recognizable orange hue, and the habit of the crystals (either dodecahedral or trapezohedral, or a combination of both forms) makes them easy to identify. This specimen featuresa coverage of very good quality, sharp, lustrous, fine orange color, gemmy, dodecahedral crystals of Grossular with trapezohedral modifications, free of matrix. The back of the piece is filled with dozens of little Grossular crystals, so it's largely crystallized all over, save the edges where it was separated from the pocket wall. No major damage, and very attractive in person. Considering that this material is no longer being found (the Jeffrey Mine is now completely defunct and will not produce these specimens again), the value will continue to increase for these specimens.
