Item Description

First found in the 1990's, these well-formed dodecahedrons of raspberry-colored Grossulars are from the famous locality in Sierra de las Cruces, Mexico. These Garnets have that rich, rather unique, saturated color that these are known for, and they are situated in a granular, marble matrix. The largest of the crystals is 1.4 cm across, they have good luster and edges that range from sharp to slightly rounded. There is some bruising on a few of the crystals, but that is very typical of the Garnets from here. I do not know if that is reflective of the mining process or an in-situ process. Overall, this is a very good, highly representative cluster of these rare Grossulars. Few specimens of this quality were found, and fewer still can be had on the market. To this day, these remain a unique, beautiful Garnet find that is unlike any found elsewhere. A Mexican classic, but also a very fine and colorful Garnet specimen by any standard. rare on the market today.
