Item Description

This is certainly one of, if not the best Grossular specimen we've had to offer in the auctions from the Coyote Range (Coyote Front Mine on the accompanying labels) as it's not only big, but fine quality. This impressive full cabinet sized display specimen is loaded with excellent, very sharp, highly lustrous, well-formed, euhedral crystals of rich cinnamon-red colored Grossular crystals that show a combination of dodecahedral, trapezohedral and octahedral faces from this famous skarn deposit. The largest crystal can be seen on the end of the specimen and it measures a whopping 3.2 cm across at its longest dimension(!), definitely one of the largest crystals that I can remember seeing from the locality. Very little damage, fine quality all around and it's quite showy to boot. Valued $3,000. Please note that the back of the piece does have a few saw mark. A really impressive specimen that was personally collected by Jim Minette.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 51.4.3b.2 CA.2; 6037 George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
