A rarely seen Grossular Garnet specimen from a find in early 2012. These specimens are seldom seen on the market now, and I'm inclined to believe it was either a one-time find or only a few pockets were found. This piece is a cluster of translucent, dodecahedra with trapezohedral modifications. The largest crystal measures 1.2 cm across. The piece could nearly be described as a "floater", as it only has a small point on attachment on the bottom. The color to me is the most intriguing aspect as it's mostly yellow, but with gold and even cinnamon colored overtones. It's a subtle hue, but very distinctive, and rarely seen in Garnets from any world locality. If you're a Garnet collector, or a Chinese collector, be sure to pick this one up. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#749 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
