Item Description
Some of the finest examples of gem grade crystallized Spodumene are found in Afghanistan. Some of the crystals are remarkably well-formed with smooth faces, which is not all that common for the species, as a lot of gem quality crystals from places like San Diego County, CA or Minas Gerais, Brazil are often rather etched. This piece is a beautifully terminated crystal of gemmy green Spodumene with a broad "Roman sword" style shape. The prism faces feature attractive pronounced striations with a gentle luster. The upper portion is a bit gemmier than the lower section. Like all Spodumene crystals, if you view this one down the "c" axis, the color is more intense do to the pleochroic nature of the species. There are few places in the world that produce such attractive gem quality examples of Spodumene like this, and they are certainly a must have for any collector of gem crystals or pegmatite minerals. Specimen weight is 176.5 grams.
