Item Description
This material is often marketed under the name "Prasiolite". It's important to note that this is natural Quartz that most likely started out as purple / lilac Amethyst, and was then heated to create the green color. The green color can also be caused by irradiating some quartz. Now this material is not naturally occuring like the "Prasem" Quartz from Russia or Greece. This is not to say that there is not natural green Quartz in the world, but the stuff that is being marketed as "Prasiolite" is not naturally green. Also, I've seen these stones marketed as "Green Amethyst", which is really a misnomer as the word Amethyst is indicative of color, so as far as I'm concerned, Amethyst is purple and this is simply green Quartz. With that said, this material seems to be all over the market rigt now and has made a real splash over the last few years in the jewelry world. This particular stone is a very attractive, nearly eye clean, light green color gem with a lovely "Modified Round Edge Emerald" cut. This stone came to us with a retail price of $832.50.
