Item Description
An impressive and in fact, dramatic, large gemmy seafoam blue-green beryl (var. aquamarine) crystal. SEAFOAM GREEN is a classic blue-green color for which those old deposits were known: it is indeed somewhat greenish, and not a pure blue. The color is very distinct although perhaps hard to convey in photos. It is blue-ish, most people would say at first glance. But to the eyes of people who are used to seeing traditional blue aquamarines, it is definitely greenish tinted - and hence they are often called "Green Beryls" to distinguish them from "Beryl var. Emerald". Rarely available, this old-time specimen is highly lustrous and is mostly transparent. The prism faces and nifty, modified pinacoidal termination are lightly frosted. Complete all-around. Thats a blade of embedded muscovite on one face. A trivial bit of termination edge wear, modest side wear on one prism face and a side contact, with virtually no damage, per se are noted. This remains an impactful large beryl, that has the look and color of classic old material from Teofilo Otoni from the 1960s or early 70s. This gemmy, hexagonal crystal weighs 228 grams.
