Item Description
A superb miniature of sharp, lustrous, metallic-gray, trigonal Gratonite crystals from the Excelsior Mine, Cerro de Pasco, Peru - the Type Locality. Composed almost entirely of crystals that reach 3 mm, the richness of the specimen is excellent. The definition of the Gratonite crystals is especially striking. Gratonite is a rare lead, arsenic sulfosalt, and this piece must easily be 100 years old as most were found in the late 1800s. Formerly in the Bob Jones Collection. Originally priced at $450. in the 1990s! Note it is really stuck onto this base, which I cannot remove.
