Grandviewite (exceptionally rare)

Item Description

Grandviewite is an exceptionally rare hydrated copper aluminum hydroxy-sulfate species, found in only one place in the world, the historic Grandview Mine inside of the Grand Canyon, Arizona. This species was approved in 2007, so it's a fairly new species, and if you're a rare species collector, or if you love minerals from the type locality, don't miss out on this one. The piece consists of a predominantly coverage of radiating groups of rich deep blue Cyanotrichite, but with strong magnification, you can see tiny rich turquoise blue colored "sprays" of Grandviewite sprinkled on top. Minor forest green Brochantite and a small amount of light sky blue Chalcoalumite are present as well. We have photographed this piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to illustrate the Grandviewite with better detail. A wonderful specimen that has to date back at least 50 years, as collecting at the Grandview Mine has not permitted for decades, since it lies within a national park.
