Gormanite (rare)

Item Description

Here we have a hard to find specimen of Gormanite, a rare hydrated iron magnesium aluminum phosphate from Linópolis, Brazil, which is one of the top localities for the species in the world. Outside of Rapid Creek in the Yukon Territory of Canada, Gormanite is not seen in good display specimens from virtually anywhere else. This mineral was named after Professor Donald Gorman a mineralogist from University of Toronto, Canada. This piece is an attractive and show large miniature / small cabinet display specimen featuring gorgeous rich greenish-blue thin prismatic crystals of Gormanite in radial "sprays", which are sitting on unidentified brown matrix. The Gormanite crystals have an almost velvety chatoyant quality to them when rotated in the light. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html).
