Item Description
Gordaite is a very rare hydrated sodium zinc hydroxy-chloro sulfate which is chemically very similar Theresemagnanite and Changoite (save the chlorine). The species is only reported from just over a dozen localities in the world, and only two in the United States. One of them being the San Miguel Wash in Yavapai County,Arizona. For more information on this discovery, please read the entry on mindat at the following link: https://www.mindat.org/loc-188550.html There are only two species reported from this find, the other being Thenardite, and I don't know for certain if it's present on this particular specimen. The piece hosts white crusts of Gordaite which can be seen in several places on the specimen. This is the only piece of this species that we've seen of this material and comes with a classic label from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals, which immediately increases the value. You can read Joe's biography here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1371 Do not miss out on this one if you collect rare minerals!
