Gold with Hematite (rare locality) (ex Dave Bergman Collection)

A very hard to find Gold specimen from the lesser-known Alvord Mine in San Bernardino County, California. This specimen hosts small spots of richly colored Gold along with Hematite on matrix. This locality dates back to 1885 and operated into the 1950s. It's one of the VERY few pieces of this material that I've ever had to offer for sale, and if you collect native elements, gold specimens or minerals from the United States (or specifically California), this would be a great specimen to add to your collection. Dave is now retired from mining, but was formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s, and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures". The piece was acquired by Dave at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in 1985.
