Item Description
A very rarely seen specimen of Native Gold from the famous Sterling Mine at Franklin, New Jersey. I have only seen one other specimen of this material. Although Gold is found in various worldwide localities, pieces are rare from Franklin. Of the over 350 species found at Franklin, it's probably no surprise that even GOLD is found there. This piece features a few micro, bright spots of Native Gold with greenish Malachite(?) and what I think is Chalcocite on matrix. The piece came to Rich Kosnar from his mentor, noted New Jersey collector Frances Patricia "Pat" Gross, and her original plastic mounting box accompanies the piece. A cool specimen of this very hard to find material. The recorded date on the piece says it was mined in 1959.
