This is the ONLY specimen of Gold we've ever had to offer from this historic locality. This mine dates back to the 1890s, but no longer exists, as it along with all the other old mines in the area are part of a giant pit (called the Super Pit) which I'm told is still operating. This prolific gold deposit is one of the most well-known in history, but specimens are incredibly difficult to find on the market. This piece is an important historical representation of material that is virtually impossible to obtain. You might see some antique Gold specimens from this mine in museum collections, but there is practically nothing in private hands anywhere. This piece features small patches / veinlets of rich yellow Gold on the side of the exposed host rock matrix. The Gold is best seen with magnification, but that doesn't mean you can't see it with the naked eye. For all of you Gold / native element enthusiasts out there, do NOT pass up the opportunity to get your hands on this desirable and significant specimen from this important mine dating back to the 19th century. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
