Gold (rare Colorado locality)

The Golden Wonder Mine is probably the best-known locality in the Lake City District of Colorado. Specimens are notably rare on the market, especially such rich and impressive examples as this. I honestly feel like this is the best Gold specimen we've ever had to offer from this locality. It features a good amount of bright yellow Gold on multiple sides of the underlying Quartz and sulfide matrix. We've photographed the Gold with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality, and you can clearly see tiny crystal faces, not just crystalline masses. A very impressive, desirable and frankly RARE locality specimen for its quality, richness and beauty. The older dealer label from DeNatura valued the piece at $750, but I honestly feel that for what it is, the value should be higher, over $1,000, as you can't find these anywhere on the market. This piece was likely collected in the 1980s when LKA Gold Incorporated was operating the mine, but the locality itself dates back to 1880, so it's POSSIBLE that it was found over 100 years ago.
