Gold on Quartz (RARE locality specimen)

Item Description

A beautiful and showy display specimen from the Burns Creek Mine in Quartzburg, Mariposa County, California. This is the ONLY specimen we've had to offer from this locality, and it's a fine and eye-catching miniature to boot! Gorgeous, rich buttery colored crystallized Gold swirls around the white Quartz matrix to create a very alluring overall specimen. There are several premier localities in Mariposa County for crystallized Gold, but if you're an aficionado of specimens from California, this is an impressive piece from an obscure locality that would make a stellar addition to your collection.

Please note:  The weight of this specimen is 34.93 grams, which is the overall mass of the piece (Gold and Quartz together).  Keep in mind that Gold is obviously much heavier than the Quartz matrix, and so proportionally there's a good bit of a Gold present.  As of the time of this posting, the price of Gold is nearly $90 per gram for reference.

Ex George Loud Collection No. 1111 CA.1; 0434.  George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size.
