Item Description
Gold is EXTREMELY RARE from any of the Ag-Co mines of the famous Cobalt-Gowganda region of Ontario, Canada. The MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale features 755 specimens, but NO gold specimens! It was a very minor accessory to the five area mines listed by MINDAT for the species. A rich, striking and sculptural vein of highly lustrous, rich yellow, hackly microcrystalline gold has been etched out of the blocky miniature quartz matrix wedge. The curved vein is 4.3 x 2.0 x 0.9 cm thick. Ex George Elling Collection, a prominent East Coast collector and includes George's calculation of the net gold on the quartz - 0.50 ounce. A troy ounce is 10% heavier than a regular ounce, so there is about 0.45 troy ounces of gold. The current bullion price of gold is $1471/troy ounce or $662 alone, just for the gold content here. Specimen value for this UNIQUE Cobalt, Ontario gold should at least be 2-4X bullion value. A MUST for the locale or gold collector!!
