Item Description

A rare matrix Gold specimen from the classic mining district around Alma, Colorado. The piece features small patches of bright Gold set against a gemmy to opaque grey Quartz matrix. This piece is from the famous Richard A. Kosnar Colorado collection, (specimen number G281 Alm 2), and his label on the bottom of the specimen indicates that it was mined in 1920. The London Mine sits between the two branches of Mosquito Gulch and was opened in the early 1870s. After about 10 years of operation, the mine had over 3000 feet of levels, and operated five large stopes at an elevation over 12,000 feet. A great historic Gold specimen from one of the most well known Gold districts in Colorado.
