Gold nugget (old material)

Item Description

This river-worn, flattened, sculptural, bright gold nugget with lightly upturned edges is from the historic Yuba River placers area. It looks like a golden gourd. They were mined and kept in a family collection since the 1950s or 1960s, I was told by my source, who sold that particular family collection. It has a rich, mellow-yellow patina and a really interesting, rounded form, which adds character. Mass is 1.26 grams. The current bullion gold price is $1683/ounce or over $54/gram. Bullion value is therefore alone, about $68. Specimen value is much more. For the locality, this is outstanding. From an old European collection.
