Gold nugget (old material)

Item Description

A very sculptural, flattened, moderately river-worn, bright gold nugget from the historic Yuba River placers area. This undulating cutie appears to be composed of intergrown, rounded, hoppered octahedrons. They were mined and kept in a family collection since the 1950s or 1960s, I was told by my source, who sold that particular family collection. They have a rich, mellow-yellow patina and a really interesting, rounded, hoppered form, which adds much pizzazz. Mass is 18.70 carats or over 3.7 grams. The current bullion gold price is $1709/ounce or almost $55/gram. Bullion value is therefore alone, about $203. Specimen value is much more. For the locality, this is outstanding. From an old European collection.
