Item Description

From the site of Australia's first gold rush in the middle of the 19th century, this flattened nugget exhibits superb yellow-gold color and outstanding luster. It has some minimal enclosed quartz remaining withint but very little by weight (given the thin-ness of the piece and the translucency of the small bit remaining), and masses 64 grams (approx. 2 ounces of gold content). A great piece for a display specimen, because you get a lot of pancakkey surface area for your money; or for a jewelry pendant. At spot value, this gold is worth already $3600-3800 range in the end of September, 2011, and as a specimen should be worth $4000-4500. NOTE: Although a little unusual, given the recent volatility in gold prices I need to reserve the right on this piece to reject any bids that are not at least equal to the spot price of this gold, on closing day of the auction....otherwise, I could just melt it though it seems a shame to do so to a nice, aesthetic specimen!
