Item Description

A beautiful California vein gold display speicmen found in the last few years by metal detector in this old historic district, this is a classic speicmen of Calfornia Gold in Quartz matrix. You can see how the gold forms in such deposits, from reading the story preserved in the rock, how it went in with quartz veins sandwiched between the rock layers on either side. This is rich with gold, for a large "rock" specimen, and showcases a good vein on the side in particular. It is 160 grams dry, 106.6 grams submerged in water, which gives a result of approximately 22-24 grams of gold content overall within a total mass of 160 grams. As for where this was found, it was highly rural: There really wasn't a name to the site, but basically from an obscure early placer diggings site on the western fault zone of the motherload belt in El Dorado county.
