Gold (beautifully crystallized)

Item Description

This thumbnail specimen is from an old discovery at the Piolho Claim in far northwestern Brazil. The piece is beautifully crystallized, but it's best viewed under magnification revealing attractive octahedral crystals along with semi-dendritic formations along elongated crystals with lovely striations. The piece has a gorgeous rich orange-yellow color and is actually crystallized on both sides. I spent a good deal of time looking at this piece with a loupe, and we photographed it with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. The piece is small, weighing in at 0.1 grams, but it's a fine specimen of crystallized gold from a discovery in the 1970s that yielded a small number of specimens that we recently acquired from an old East Coast collection.
