Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of native Gold from this historic locality in the Czech Republic (formerly Zuckmantel in the Austro-Hungarian Empire). The first written accounts of gold mining are from the 13th century but scientists estimate that gold mining began at Zlate Hory by the end of the 10th century. In 1990 mining operations stopped as they were no longer profitable, so it's been 25 years since any specimens have come out. This piece features small patches of bright metallic crystalline and "leaf" gold on Quartz matrix. A great opportunity to purchase a good representative gold from this 1,000 year old locality.
