Item Description

Smooth, lustrous, dark gray, goethite stalactites and bubbly botryoids cover the sculptural matrix of massive goethite on this showy and uncommon specimen from this closed (before 1967) underground iron mine. The broken tips of the stalactites reveal the radial growth of the goethite and the filled hollow tubes, where the precipitating fluids flowed. Very nifty. Choice older material from the Bob Trimingham Collection.
